The Ministry of Commerce and Investment in Saudi Arabia has announced that the official fees in relation to trade mark searching, filing, registration and renewals are due to decrease. This will, however, be offset by an increase in fees to record an assignment and amendment against a registered trade mark.
While any increase in fees is never welcome news, we believe that in the main, this shift in official charges is a positive move by the Trade Marks Office. It will benefit all existing rights holders due to a decent reduction in renewal fees and hopefully, it may pave the way for new applicants to protect their brands.
