The UAE Ministry of Economy (MoE) has been stepping on the gas of late and is giving the Saudi Arabian Trade Marks office a run for its money on processing trade mark applications. While in times gone past, a UAE trade mark application could be stuck pending for over a year or more, there has been a recent trend in acceptance notices being issued within a week of filing. This is particularly welcoming news for brand owners wanting to enforce their trade marks as the whole trade mark registration process could now be completed within a matter of a few months.
This is largely thanks to the MoE’s migration to electronic filing and following its latest notification, it is no longer a requirement to lodge the physical trade mark application files. This is a welcome development and demonstrates the MoE’s commitment to modernising the registration system in the UAE.
