A hop on the drop – UAE TMO reduces registration fees for applications and renewals

We have received formal notification from the Ministry of Economy, and we have learned that the UAE Trade Marks Office is following Saudi’s lead (though this is still to be implemented) and reducing trade mark registration fees (applicable to applications and renewals) by 33%!! This will take the overall official fee (which includes the filing fee and Official Gazette publication fee) down from AED 12,000 (equivalent to US $3,270 at today’s rate of exchange) to AED 8,700 (around US $2,370). This is effective immediately.

The Trade Mark Office also appear to be facilitating easier access to information and stricter deadlines. They have waived paying a fee for additional information and/or changes and a number of services around extension requests. They are no longer entertaining priority document extension requests.

We can all agree that this is a commendable step in the right direction. Will the next development be to implement Madrid maybe? Watch this space….
